Nicolas is presenting in the Particle-Based Materials Symposium 2020. The Particle-Based Material Symposium is a small workshop (50-100 participants) that has, in the last 4 years, brought together (mainly) young scientists and engineers from different communities that all share the goal of creating functionality in materials using particles. Nicolas will present at the NICE-Conference on October 14, 2020. The NICE-Conferences are organized with the objective to share new developments in the field of bioinspired chemistry & materials as well as in Optics Photonics & Materials and to understand new challenges that are being faced in these fields of research. As part of our collaboration with BayBionik, Teresa and Salva explain how their repelling surfaces work. This collaborative project focuses on developing new enviromental friendly coatings which could be utilized to make different surfaces slippery. Eric won a prize for his poster and flash presentation entitled ‘Chiral Surface Lattice Resonances’ in this year’s London Plasmonics Forum. The London Plasmonics Forum has been held annually at King’s College London since 2015, but in 2020 this was not possible due to COV-ID 19. At this years annual poster presentation of the Advanced Materials and Science masters-programm, Lukas was awarded the best poster prize for the presentation of his work on synthetic opals. Besides, Nicolas received the best-lecturer-award as voted by the MAP students. Congratulations to both!

Marcel successfully defended his PhD thesis on 6 of December 2019 and received his doctor title. Dr. Marcel Rey is now the first PhD from the Vogel lab. Congratulations! We wish Marcel all the best for his future career.

A serious scientific discussion with Prof. Syuji Fujii from Osaka Institute of Technology during the Okinawa 2019 conference at which Nicolas and Marcel presented research from the Vogel lab.

A new collaborative research center, funded by the German Science Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) has been granted to an interdisciplinary team of scientists at FAU, headed by Prof. Wolfgang Peukert. The center will focus on the scalable design of advanced particulate materials to be used as optical materials and to establish a technological approach towards chromatographic separation of nanoparticles. Read here for more details.

The first Symposium of the joint project Baybionik by StMUV took place at October 17.  Teresa presented our contribution to the world of slippery surfaces based on the pitcher plant.

Teresa and Salvatore presented at the event “Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften” on October 19 at Bionicum in Nuremberg. With the title “Let’s slip together with the pitcher plant!” they explained to the public audience, how they could make surfaces slippery. After the presentation, the public could do some exciting experiments and see how ketchup and red wine droplets slide down the slippery substrates in practice.

Three of our PhD candidatiates, Marcel, Junwei and Johannes, are presenting their work at the poster presentation of this years’ Particle Based Material Symposium at University of Ulm. We had a lot of fun while presenting. Eric presented our recent work on site-specific functionalisation of plasmonic nanostructures during his talk. More infos can be found here.
